Driving through Oakland 101

While attempting to get to work a little early this morning I chose to drive in, however I didn't want to take Highway 880 since its always packed. So, I decided that 580 was my route. Seeing as I've only driven into work from our new place twice and both times I took 880 I literally had no clue where I was going this morning.
Never fear, alas my amazing navigational skills directed me through the winding maze of Highway 580 (a straight shot) to the very colorful (ghetto) exit of E 14th street in downtown Oakland. I must admit I did thoroughly enjoy driving through the older neighborhoods examining the bungalows and oddly placed newer homes of the area.
The best part of this drive and quite possibly any drive to date was passing Oak street, almost to China town, I passed by a nice looking park. Upon further examination of said park I noticed a very bright green sign displaying with pride that this was no ordinary park. No, this was a SENIOR CITIZEN PARK.
(Side Note – I don't know about you, but I was completely unaware that Senior Citizens had an entire park dedicated to their various Senior Citizenry activities. )
I looked on in amazement as I found a very large gathering of the elderly of the variety that only the East Bay can accumulate in one place, doing various aerobic activities and going about their assumed strength training activities. My favorite part of this highly amusing drive-by was the amazingly large gathering of said elderly individuals being led by a very boisterous miked up elderly lady leading her group in none other than... THE MACARENA!!!! That's right, when I'm old and in need of aerobic activity you can bet your sweet bottom I will be frequenting this Senior Citizen Park to do none other than... the Macarena!

I LOVE OAKLAND!!! :)
